A Driving Man
Spent $300 to drive a truck down to Toronto to pick up a mattress that’s nice to have, but that I don’t actually need. It will, if nothing else, give me a more civilised looking guest room, which is funny, because when the fuck do I have guests?
Fuck
So, one of the things that I hate about the modern world, is the strange return of the old button-down conservatism of the 1950’s, just with a weirdly permissive edge. Conform to the edict of non-conformity. Anyway, people don’t swear anymore, at least not like I do. Maybe they never did, but everyone’s so fucking squeaky clean, unless you’re “white trash.” Nothing has changed, the middle class bourgeois are still bourgeois, just younger and with Masters’ degrees.
Hail Satan
The drive was fruitful in the sense that I decided to take a risk on a lecture series given by a guy who talks a lot of sense, but says it with a cadence almost identical to Alex Jones, which is kind of freaky. Shouty, angry, American man. And, it turns out, a former priest in the satanic church.
Definitely appealed to my innate paranoia and conviction that the word conspiracy has gotten a bad rap precisely because there are so fucking many of them that if you try to name them all, you sound like a total fucking kook.
Anyway, this guy was talking gnosticism and ideology and freeing oneself from the fetters of conventional wisdom (which he sees as a satanist conspiracy, don’t know how far I’m willing to run with him on that one).
What was fruitful about it was that it’s been quite a while since I last listened to any lectures of this kind, and it was simply nice to be reminded that there are other people who think also think that our world is build on an astounding (and terrifying) combination of hubris and ignorance. And he presented some old ideas in interesting ways, but also absolutely butchered a couple of metaphors that would have been illuminating to others if he’d gotten them right.
Anyway…
